What materials can I request?

What is Interlibrary Loan?

If your campus Library does not have a book, essay or journal article that you need, we can usually get it from another Library. This is called Interlibrary Loans.

NSCC uses two types of Interlibrary Loans:

  • For Novanet materials - see Novanet Express.
  • For all others - use Document Delivery (i.e. keep reading).

Who can use this?

Our Document Delivery service is only for NSCC students, faculty or staff. You also need to register with the library. See http://www.library.nscc.ca/Policies/borrowing.asp#reg or contact your campus libary to register.

You cannot get Document Delivery if you have overdue materials or exceed the maximum fine amount within the Novanet Library system.

What materials can I request?

Books, journal articles, essays, videos... almost anything. Most libraries will not loan entire journals or magazines. Videos and reference materials are often difficult to get, but we can try.

Make sure the item is not in the Novanet catalogue, full text in our databases, or in our A-Z Journal Service. Document Delivery is for borrowing materials from libraries outside of the Novanet consortium.

If another Novanet Library has it, you can go to that Library and borrow it in person, or request it via Novanet Express.

How do I place request?

Use the Document Delivery Request form available on our website.

User Login is your 14 digit barcode number (e.g. 21998123456789 ) on the NSCC ID.

Password is the password you use for accessing your Novanet library account. Initially this password will be the last 4 digits of your phone number registered with the library until you changed it.

Visit your NSCC campus Library if you do not have a barcode or need help with the form.

Cost

Currently, there is usually no charge for Document Delivery services.

Pickup, Loan Periods, & Returning Borrowed ILL Materials

We will email you when your item arrives. Your campus Library will hold it for 5 days.

Loan periods are set by the Library that owns the item. They usually range from 2 to 3 weeks for books. Some loans may be renewable. Photocopies are yours to keep. Please return all other ILL materials to your campus Library.

Restrictions

Some items will have to be used in the Library because of their physical condition or other conditions.
