Open Access (OA) journals are free, online, quality controlled scientific and scholarly journals. They are also free of most copyright and licensing restrictions.

How to find Open Access journals

Our library databases include many Open Access journals. The following directories, search engines and publishers will also be useful.

Directory of Open Access Journals

    • Over 5000 Open Access journals as of August 2010.
    • Most articles are free, although some require you to register.

OAIster search engine

    • A searchable collection of academically-oriented digital resources
    • Uses a Worldcat interface.

Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations

BioMed Central

    • Publishes 150+ peer-reviewed Open Access journals in health and medicine.
    • Free but requires registration

Open Access Repositories

OpenDOAR

    • Directory of academic Open Access Repositories.

ROAR

    • Registry of Open Access Repositories.
